Giants and mines

The winter break is nearly over.  The seas have been rough allowing no ocean going ships to dock and with the thaw just beginning the mercenary company are eager to get out and do more than just go on patrol.
Jillian announces that she and Sharin Cal, her mentor, must go and meet up with other druids, as Sharin Cal has been challenged.
Barrigan wants to reclaim a mine to the North East of Jans Landing, although the reports are that the goblins who reside there have been enslaved by a band of evil cloud giants.
We go by horse for the overland journey, on the first day Corinne spots some huge eight legged lizards on the trail ahead. Knowing these beasts are abominations we approach them cautiously.  They are very alert and run towards us while nearly half a mile out.  Soon they come into our missile and spell range and we take several out.  Things then go badly wrong when melee is joined.  These creatures can petrify their foe and poison them as well as having sharp teeth.  Saeryn is both poisoned and petrified and Lanneus loses his head with a vicious attack from these monsters.  When the combat is over we recover the paladins head and bring him back to life and turn Saeryn back to normal.
We camp for the night with no visitors.  The next day we strike out again, we are traveling through a particularly heavy area of forest when we notice spiders webs around us.  Suddenly huge spiders appear from nowhere and attack us.  Sometimes they disappear after striking making it hard to hit them.  We manage to beat them down without losing anyone in our party.
We reach the outskirts of the Giants citadel and prepare before entering the place.  With everyone able to fly we soar over the large gates with two trolls chained to them and make for some rooftops where there are a number of giants on guard.  We quickly engage in hand to hand fighting and gain the upper hand when a swarm of wyverns descend on us together with giant reinforcements.  The fighting is spread over two rooftops but we ultimately win through.  Wounds are healed and we descend into the nearest building.
As soon as we round the first corner we are met with a snarling pack of mountain lions and a group of giants.  In the ensuing melee, Tarans enthusiastic swing launches his sword into the side of Lanneus, err sorry about that, could I have my weapon back please.  Not to be outdone Lanneus launches his trident in the air and lands a good 10’ behind him.  Corinne manages to charm several of the lions and they obediently sit by her feet.  Just as we are attacking the last of the giants a doorway opens and reinforcements, including a mage, hurl rocks and spells at us.  Lightning bolts catch several in the party.  No-one has seen Krachtig for a while, as he is invisible, but we soon start to smell burnt gnome, not quite a bad an odor as wet gnome but still troubling.  The squire and Saeryn rush to fill the doorway and when the original group of giants is finally dealt with we can move reinforcements up to take on these newcomers.  Taran spends most of this combat healing one after another of the fighters as they get beaten down, finally he has healed most people and is enable to engage in combat again when a second group of giants arrive.  Corinne is in her element here slaying one after another of her sworn enemy.  The last standing giant runs down the corridor he came from and Corinne follows in a battle fury, Lanneus backs her up but it is no surprise when giants emerge from a doorway and cut the two of them off from the rest of the party.  Krachtig who is now restored to health casts a haste spell on the fighters in the party and with swords and axes whirling twice as fast we cut them down to size.  Even more giants emerge from doors at the end of the corridor and we start to think about making a retreat as both Saeryn and Derek are unconscious and we are getting low on curing spells.
