Library Redux

We take some time out from defeating evil and the like to enable Krachtig and Taran to read some books to boost their brainpower.  We spend this time taking care of the little chores that always get put off.
Now the pair have gone up a hat size, they decide to return to the library where we had defeated the foul mage Blacksoul.  Taran has word from a diva that the answer to raising the sunken Mannanan Mac Lir temple can be found there.
Rather than taking ship and spending an excessive amount of time they Dimensional Fold to a spot not far from the library where they had made camp all that time ago.  
They arrive at their intended destination which is less than a day’s journey to the library.  They make haste in the icy weather when a huge group of massive two headed ice trolls ambush them.  The fighting is fierce and the party is spread out with each person battling at least three of the creatures each.  Carinne unleashes a couple of devastating fireballs against the foe and their vulnerability to fire is evident as they drop quickly. Then Corinne, who has been charmed by one of the troll spellcasters, drops a fireball just behind Taran who is caught completely by surprise.  We finish off the last of the creatures and remove the spell from Carinne before she can do any more damage.  Taran is much displeased that his fine Cloak of Displacement is now ash.
It is not before the party has traveled another league that they are beset by Mountain Giants hurling rocks and two groups of ogres which are moving as though hasted.  Taran casts a dimensional fold to get the party to the upper ridge where the giants are but doesn’t make it through himself as he is surrounded by ogres who in a heartbeat beat him down and he dies.  Saeryn who was the first through the fold doesn’t fare much better as she loses an eye and is beaten unconscious.  The remainder of the party kills off the giants and restores life to Taran and then he can regenerate Saeryns vision.
With no further obstacles, the party arrives at the libraries main doors and decides to rest up before entering as they had used a lot of spells to overcome the creatures earlier.
Suitably prepared they see traps on the main door which Galvish tries to disarm and ends up activating a symbol of pain wracking his body and making it difficult to function.  We enter into the main chamber and before we can start looking for the tome we seek are assailed by spectral figures; we also hear a voice speaking some unknown Elvish dialect.  The battle does not go well for Saeryn who is struck several times by these creatures and ends up in a force cage cast by some unseen mage.  We kill off the spectres but Taran has disappeared in a Maze spell, shortly afterwards he casts some spells of his own and reappears a lot quicker than usual.
The next opponents are invisible stalkers, which takes us back to the earlier battle we had here with Blacksoul.  A Hydra which breathes cold and regrows its heads is then thrown into the mix, at the same time Taran glances over at Barrigan who has been strangely quiet for the last few minutes – oh no he must be the victim of a chaos spell, crap lets hope we can dispel the magic before he charges at us.
Carinne and Krachtig have gone upstairs to track down the mage who is continuing to cast spells at us.  They track around the balconies before they spot him, Carinne launches volleys of arrows at him while Krachtig directs a disintegrate ray at him.  When Carinne finds her range and batters through his defenses he erupts in a fury of metal tips, shafts and feathers and perishes instantly.
Lanneus has broken Saeryn out of the forcecage and together they attack the hydra, at the same time Barrigan focuses his glare on Taran and knocks him to the ground in a whirlwind of axes.  Barrigan then takes on the vacant stare of one confused again.  With the help of Galvish the Hydra is kept occupied but has regrown extra heads.  Finally as Taran regains consciousness he dispels the magic on the dwarf and together they attack the beast, with fire borne spells and flaming weapons they finally defeat the beast.
With quiet settling over the library once more we search for the document.  
It is two long days later when it is finally found.
