Enter the Dwarrowdelf
When some of Middle-earth’s greatest heroes volunteer to escort Arwen Undómiel to Rivendell, their voyage through The Redhorn Gate becomes the start of an epic new journey that will take them through bone-chilling snowstorms, hordes of enemies, and into the twists and turns of the entire Dwarrowdelf cycle.
Snowstorms rage throughout the mountain passes, making travel difficult and crippling your fellowship’s progress, and fearsome predators stalk the pass, ready to take advantage of any moment’s weakness. But it is the discovery of a startling increase of Orc activity that truly transforms the escort mission of The Redhorn Gate into the first chapter of an epic struggle against evil.
Lead developer Lukas Litzsinger hints at what lies in store for those brave enough to explore the Dwarrowdelf:
The Dwarrowdelf cycle allows players to travel along the Misty Mountains as well as delve deep into Moria. While the cycle’s narrative arc stands apart from the one in the Khazad-dûm box, the two are closely knit thematically. This allows us to better differentiate the areas players will be exploring and is why Khazad-dûm is a required purchase for anyone who wants to play the Dwarrowdelf scenarios.
The quests in the cycle are each meant to challenge players in new ways. Dwarrowdelf scenarios force players to re-evaluate the flexibility a deck must have to handle all of the various challenges that Middle-earth has to offer. Some of the nastiest encounter cards to date appear in this cycle.
However, players will have powerful new cards at their disposal as well. With six new hero cards, more strategies and deck combinations open up. The beginning of the cycle’s arc sets players on the path to Rivendell, and so it seemed fitting to provide players with cards that reflect this important Elf haven, guarded under the wise and watchful rule of Elrond.
