Chasing Dragons

Announcing the third Chapter Pack from Beyond the Narrow Sea

Dany went to her window and looked out wistfully on the waters of the bay. The square brick towers of Pentos were black silhouettes outlined against the setting sun. Dany could hear the singing of the red priests as they lit their night fires and the shouts of ragged children playing games beyond the walls of the estate.

–George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Chasing Dragons, the third Chapter Pack in the Beyond the Narrow Sea cycle for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game!

The great Houses gather armies and allies in preparation for war. With sixty new cards (3 copies each of 20 different cards) that continue to develop the themes and setting of Essos, Chasing Dragons introduces many of the Eastern continent’s notable figures. Lords and Knights advance their Houses’ interests in the Free Cities, the Raiders of House Greyjoy cruise Essos’ coasts and storm its shores, and new Armies mass outside its great city-states. Not only does Chasing Dragons present players with a new Kingdom location to foster trait-based alliances between Houses, it also includes two exciting City plots that increase players’ options for strategies both controlling and aggressive.

Red priests and night fires

From Essos come the Asshai’i, the warlocks, and dragons. Magic and flame spread through the lands near ancient Valyria, stronger than they do in Westeros. Such strange and uncontrollable powers frighten those who don’t understand them and frustrate the maesters who would see the world bound to logic and the devices of men.

Some Houses, however, find welcome in these foreign lands and find ancient truths at the root of their practices. House Targaryen has profited from Eastern magic and the return of dragons, and it all began with a gift from a Magister in Pentos. Still, each of the Houses may benefit from the gifts of Pentos (Chasing Dragons, 58), where they muster Armies at reduced costs. There, the other Houses may also attempt to forge an alliance with Daenerys Targaryen and House Targaryen, reducing the cost of the first out-of-House Targaryen card you play each round by one. Because both discounts from Pentos apply separately, you can stack them to play an out-of-House Targaryen Army at normal cost, or you can apply them to two different cards.

Furthermore, each House gains the service of a strong, unique Army in the Beyond the Narrow Sea cycle, so Pentos and its discounts will provide you even more benefit as the chapters of the saga Beyond the Narrow Sea begin to unfold.

That is the way of these Free Cities. As the Houses seek to extend their influence throughout Essos, the alliances they can forge in such rich trading ports and strongholds will prove vital to their success.

The lands of Essos

Look for Pentos, two City plots, and a host of new characters to give greater definition to the struggles between the great Houses of Westeros as they move deeper into the lands Beyond the Narrow Sea.

Chasing Dragons is scheduled to release late in the second quarter of 2012!
