Saving the World... No Matter the CostA sample deck for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game
Though the masses conduct their daily business, blissfully unaware of the Ancient Ones and their increasing influence throughout Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, the day is approaching that secrets Written and Bound will soon come to light. Nefarious cults driven to worship of the Ancient Ones seek these mysteries to usher forth a new age of terror and destruction, but there are others who seek to forestall the doom they would unleash.
To find any means of combating the Ancient Ones, the brave faculty and students at Miskatonic University have long delved into mind-altering Tomes and their terrifying truths. However, no matter the resolve some Faculty may share, and regardless of the innate genius of some of their best Students, Miskatonic’s best investigators still struggle against the raw Terror and the Combat prowess of the cultists and monsters who worship the Ancient Ones. Against beings such as Cthulhu, the Heroic minds of Miskatonic most frequently come unhinged.
An unholy union
One of the challenges inherent in Miskatonic’s approach is that it’s difficult to race to investigate the means to stop the Ancient Ones even as the Ancient Ones are exerting their growing influence. The characters from Miskatonic University have long been the “good guys,” the Heroic individuals willing to sacrifice their lives for the cause. The problem is that these sacrifices often avail them naught.
While the fate of the world is at hand, a new ally reaches out to the investigators at Miskatonic University. Nathan Wick (Written and Bound, 13), the Master of Initiation for the Order of the Silver Twilight, suggests his organization may have the means to help Miskatonic’s brave investigators save the world. In turn, he needs to ask them to look the other way when his people conduct dark Rituals and resort to means less than heroic as they remove some of the obstacles in their path.

This deck partners the draw acceleration from Miskatonic University, as well as the protection the faction’s stronger Relics offer a character, with the incredibly potent character acceleration provided by Nathan Wick.

Strategy
Nathan Wick is the key card in the deck, the engine that allows the whole machine to operate. His ability to play characters from your hand for only the price of a discard drastically alters the way you can approach the entire game. As such, he’s the character you’ll want to protect with the Disc of Itzamna (The Breathing Jungle, 57) and the Mask of Sthenelus (Into Tartarus, 98). If you can get enough cards in hand, Nathan Wick can work through dark channels with the Initiate of Huang Hun (Curse of the Jade Emperor, 40) and Lord Jeffrey Farrington (The Order of the Silver Twilight, 18) to bounce your opponent’s characters back to his hand… all of them… leaving you free to investigate stories unopposed.
The deck’s Miskatonic presence is meant to fuel your card draw, giving Nathan Wick the ammunition he needs. The Scientific Text (Secrets of Arkham, 7) is your main tool, though Professor Rice (Dunwich Denizens, 63) is a valuable contributor, doubling the yield of each scientific inquiry. The Spell, Binding (Core Set, 36), can help you win icon struggles, but it can also be retrieved with the T’tka Halot and fed to fuel the rituals led by Nathan Wick.
Will the daring investigators of Miskatonic University still be the "good guys" once they participate in the dark rituals led by Nathan Wick? No one can say, but you can look for Nathan Wick and Miskatonic University to form an exciting and dynamic partnership with the release of Written and Bound, coming soon!
