Announcing the 2012 Call of Cthulhu European Championships

The Ancient Ones Head to Liège the Weekend of Saturday October 27th

“In the Vastnesses transcending our world are Shapes of darkness that seize and bind. The Affair that shambleth about in the night, the Evil that defieth the Elder Sign, the Herd that stand watch at the secret portal each tomb is known to have.”

–H.P. Lovecraft, Through the Gates of the Silver Key

Attention, investigators, servitors, and cultists!

The 2012 Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game European Championship Tournament is taking place on Saturday, October 27th in Liège, Belgium.

During the 30th International Rendez-Vous (IRV) of the Objectif-Jeux association, you will be welcome to take part in the European Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Championship Tournament in Liège, as well as two side events. This weekend is an international Call of Cthulhu event with great prizes that you will not want to miss!

Last year, the tournament gathered twenty-six players from all over the world. You can find a full review full of pictures (in French) at Le Cénacle Chthonien.

Call of Cthulhu European Championship Tournament

Friday evening, all cultist will be welcome to chat, socialize, and play casual games for fun…or training! This is also a good time to finish “fine tuning” your decks.

Calling Down the Ancients

Then, Saturday morning, October 27th, the main event will start at 10 AM. The European Championship Tournament will feature four Swiss rounds, then a cut to elimination play between the tournament’s top eight participants.

Thanks to FFG, Objectif Jeux, L'Autre Monde, and EagleCard, every participant will receive a generous cache of prizes. Moreover, the new European Champion will also be rewarded with the chance to design his or her own champion card, which will be published in a future expansion. The Champion also qualifies for free entrance and a first round bye to the FFG World Championship Weekend two weeks later in Roseville, MN.

Day Dreams and Night Terrors

On Sunday, players will have the chance to participate in an original variant, created just for the event: “Ticking clock and hidden stories.” This variant introduces a dawn-day-twilight-night cycle which gives temporary powers to certain factions. The variant rules can be downloaded freely from rapidshare.
