According to this morning's Games Central on Teletext Valve's well regarded zombie co-op will be free until lunchtime to download from Steam:

There's no point me d/ling since gaming PCs laugh at my laptop and push it into the bushes on the way to school but thought it might be of use to someone.

And also badly reported by GC this morning. 

Turns out you can dl and play it up until 23:59 but after that time, whenever you dl-ed it it wipes itself.

So, a demo then basically if an unusually generous one.

And yeah, what you said about Steam.
