Plugged-in to the MidwestReports from Three Stops on the Plugged-in Tour for Android: Netrunner
For three weeks now, the Plugged-in Tour for Android: Netrunner has reached out to servers across the United States and Canada.
On the tour, our staff have seized the opportunity to meet and talk with hundreds of enthusiastic players. We’ve collected your votes for your favorite of the two potential Runner IDs: Laramy Fisk and The Collective. We’ve taken on Runners of all sorts in hundreds of challenge games, revealing some of our favorite upcoming cards in the process, and we’ve run dozens of tournaments, allowing us to get a much clearer picture of the national metagame.
Last weekend, our tour stops took us to New York, Colorado, and Wisconsin. We’ve already recapped the highlights of our events in New York and Colorado, so today we’re happy to recap the highlights of our stops in Wisconsin.
I’m Board! Games & Family Fun – Middleton, WI
Our week three stops in the Midwest began in Middleton, WI at I'm Board! Games & Family Fun. Players gathered not only to test their mettle in the event’s tournament and win the exclusive Plugged-In Tour prizes, but also to face off against our staff challenge decks, which have continued to evolve and gain momentum through the tour.
Here, we met some truly hardcore fans of the game, and two fans in particular, Myron Mychal and Brad Emon, may have set a new standard for dedication with their Sure Gamble tattoos.
The faction breakdown ran against the evolving national trend with a near even distribution of Runners. Criminals took the lead, but we saw more Anarchs than Shapers. The diversity ended there, however, as Criminals completely dominated the Top 8, with Andromeda claiming five spots and sharing the Criminal spotlight with a single Gabriel Santiago deck.
On the Corp side, Haas-Bioroid, Weyland Consortium, and NBN each had an equal number of decks at the tournament, and that diversity continued into the Top 8.
In the end, Brad Emon ran to the top of the datapike with his decks built around Weyland Consortium: Because We Built it and Andromeda’s hyper-accelerated economy.

Our staff want to send a huge thank you to Brian, Aaron, and Eric for hosting such an enjoyable event. The stop at I’m Board! had everything we could have hoped for: a professional staff, comfortable space, day-long demos, shouts and groans at the challenge tables, and a passionate player base. The I’m Board! crowd is one to watch, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future!
Gnome Games – Green Bay, WI
On Saturday, the Plugged-in Tour and our staff arrived at Gnome Games in Green Bay. The event featured players ranging from several runners who had already attended prior events to those who had just downloaded their first credits that morning!
Once again, the Criminal and Weyland Consortium factions continued to do well, punching their way to the top of the event, even though more Corp players elected to play with Haas-Bioroid and NBN than Weyland.
Ultimately, Nicholas Soto won the event, powered by his combination of Criminal and Weyland Consortium decks and scrapping his way past the event’s Shapers and NBN stations.

Even as they conducted their runs on the store’s servers, participants cast their votes for their favorite of the two potential Runner IDs: Laramy Fisk and The Collective. At Gnome Games, as throughout Wisconsin, Laramy Fisk won huge tallies, further distancing himself from The Collective even after The Collective had closed some of the gap in recent events.
Still, the support for these two potential Runners has varied greatly from region to region, and with a third of the tour yet remaining, a strong regional push may be all The Collective needs to close the gap!

The Board Game Barrister – Greenfield, WI
On Sunday, the Plugged-in Tour made its final Wisconsin stop at The Board Game Barrister’s gorgeous new location in Greenfield Wisconsin. Laramy Fisk supporters continued to roll in, and our staff boasted that this stop saw more double-digit tags and more brain damage than any event yet!
Greenfield was true to its name; a staggering sixty-one percent of the field was comprised of Shaper decks! Shaper-country made its voice heard, as no less than six of the green runners cracked the Top 8, including five Kate “Mac” McCaffrey decks. The Criminals were the only other faction to make the Top 8.
The Corporate shuffle continued to match national trends as the usual suspects, Weyland Consortium and NBN led both the field and the Top 8.
However, it was merciless Haas-Bioroid that won final honors, as Greg Nordeng paired them with an aggressive Andromeda deck to take the day’s top spot… on his birthday!

After being narrowly edged out of the Top 8 on tiebreakers in Middleton, Greg returned to win an exclusive messenger bag and playmat at The Board Game Barrister. Happy birthday, Greg!
Nothing makes the Plugged-in Tour more enjoyable for our staff than meeting and playing with scores of the country’s most enthusiastic Android: Netrunner fans. Thus, we want to acknowledge those players from Champaign, IL who made the trek north to join everyone in some Sunday challenges, demos, and tournament play.
We also want to thank The Board Game Barrister’s Rachael, Gordon, Elizabeth, and Michael for an incredibly enjoyable event and a great finale to the Wisconsin leg of our tour!
