Enter the Wizard's Vale

The Voice of Isengard Is Now Available for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

“A tall pillar loomed up before them. It was black; and set upon it was a great stone, carved and painted in the likeness of a long White Hand. Its finger pointed north. Not far now they knew that the gates of Isengard must stand.”

–J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers

The time has come to enter the Wizard’s Vale. The Voice of Isengard deluxe expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is now available at your local retailer and online through our webstore!

Featuring three new scenarios, nine encounter sets, two heroes, and three copies of each player card, the 156 cards in The Voice of Isengard transport you to the Vale of Isen. There, you’ll meet the head of the White Council and undertake a series of quests that will thrust you against all-new threats.

You’ll have to move quickly, though, as you seek the means to help the free peoples of Middle-earth stand tall against the Dark Lord of Mordor. Time is always against you. Your doom is always close at hand.

Pressed for Time

The Voice of Isengard features three new scenarios: The Fords of Isen, To Catch an Orc, and Into Fangorn.

These scenarios draw upon nine new encounter sets to pit some of Middle-earth’s greatest heroes against a wide range of new, regional threats. You’ll find the ferocious warriors of Dunland armed for battle, you’ll encounter brutal bands of Uruks, and you’ll find little time to rest as you confront the angry Huorns of Fangorn.

At the core of each of these scenarios is a sense of urgency instilled by the new Time X keyword. Time X cards create “time counters” that track the amount of time you have remaining to complete your tasks before you suffer the impact of their triggered effects. When triggered, these effects may cause you to suffer grievous wounds, lose track of your prey, or get lost in the wild.

These aren’t just one-time effects, either. You’ll find that these effects either create long-lasting effects that alter the very course of our your quest, or they’ll reset and threaten to trigger again and again. Either way, you can’t afford to quest lightly.

Isengard Allied to Rohan

Among the player cards in The Voice of Isengard, you’ll find two new Rohan heroes certain to spur a frenzy of deck-building, Éomer (The Voice of Isengard, 1) and Gríma (The Voice of Isengard, 2).

In addition to lending their powerful new abilities to your service, these heroes unify several of the expansion’s themes, as the remainder of its player cards also strengthen the Rohan and Isengard traits and permit exploration of the new Doomed X keyword.

Whenever cards with the Doomed X keyword are played, each player must raise his threat by the value of “X.” However, these cards also provide powerful and versatile answers to the challenges of your quests, and they greatly outpace comparatively costed events.

An Ongoing Narrative

“Saruman has long studied the arts of the Enemy himself, and thus we have often been able to forestall him. It was by the devices of Saruman that we drove him from Dol Guldur.”
–Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring

The scenarios from The Voice of Isengard are all designed to provide engaging and rewarding play experiences on their own, but they can also be woven together into a larger narrative arc. Together, they relate the first several chapters of your efforts to help Saruman the White find any available means to confront the growing menace of Mordor.

Throughout this tale, you’ll find that Saruman’s style differs from those who have given you counsel in the past. Still, though his efforts may seem questionable, it’s worth remembering that it was Saruman who provided the White Council the strength they needed to drive the Enemy from Dol Guldur.

While you work for the White Wizard, you may find yourself facing difficult decisions, but if you can keep the larger picture in mind – and focus on gaining the strength to confront Mordor – the scenarios from The Voice of Isengard are just the beginning. The expansion’s nine encounter sets also lay the foundation for The Ring-maker cycle of Adventure Packs!
