It`s this wild colour scheme that freaks me. When you try and operate one of these weird black controls which are labelled in black on a black background a small black light lights up black to let you know you`ve done it. What is this? Some kind of intergalactic hyperhearse? - Zaphod

The Shadow Spreads

Four New Descent Lieutenant Packs Are Now Available

You look on in shock as a hideous humanoid creature slowly emerges from the rift. The creature takes a few moments to look about the area, nodding in approval. “Ah…” the demonic hybrid says in a rumbling voice. “It is good to be home…”

The darkness of Nerekhall is no longer bound by the walls of the city, and it flows outwards across Terrinoth with the arrival of four new Descent Lieutenant Packs corresponding to the Shadow of Nerekhall expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition! These new Lieutenant Packs are now available through our webstore and at your local retailer.

With Lieutenant Packs for Rylan Olliven, Tristayne Olliven, Verminous, and Gargan Mirklace, you’ll be able to replace the lieutenant tokens from the Shadow of Nerekhall with sculpted plastic figures. Ten-card Plot decks invite you to pursue your schemes and engineer the heroes’ downfall in any campaign, possibly even summoning your lieutenant as an agent of your will.  (For the full Lieutenant Pack rules, visit the Descent support page.)

Madness and Black Magic

In our first preview of the four newest Descent Lieutenant Packs, we explored the Tristayne Olliven Lieutenant Pack and its propensity for chaos. Tristayne Olliven’s Plot deck, Unstable Forces, offers you entirely new ways to punish the heroes. Many of Tristayne’s Plot cards offer powerful bonuses in combat, but tampering with wild energy comes with a price. In exchange for the newfound power, your monsters may become damaged by using cards like Power and Sacrifice.

Some of your monsters may perish, but to an accomplished necromancer, death is just the beginning. Tristayne’s study of the black arts drove him insane, but he is still deadly in battle. Tristayne’s Ravage ability allows him to make two attack actions per turn, and he can even damage nearby monsters to deal more damage to a beleaguered hero, making Tristayne more than capable of wrecking the heroes’ plans.

Plots of the Rat-Thing King

Our second preview of these Descent Lieutenant Packs focused on Verminous, the Rat-Thing King who pursues his own agenda from the sewers beneath Nerekhall. Verminous’s Unseen Legions Plot deck offers a host of tricks for the overlord. Some of these new tricks center on enhancing the powers of your weaker monsters, making them a force to be reckoned with. Other Plot cards interact more directly with your Overlord cards, allowing you to manipulate your Overlord cards to have a greater effect on the game.

Manipulating Overlord cards fits naturally with the abilities of Verminous himself, should you summon him into a quest outside of Shadow of Nerekhall as your agent. Verminous is stealthy, hiding in the darkness of Nerekhall’s sewers, which makes it hard for heroes to successfully attack him. More than that, however, Verminous lets you get the most out of your Overlord cards by dealing extra damage or cycling your hand to find your best cards for the current quest.

Out of the City

We’ve previewed the schemes of Tristayne Olliven and Verminous, but what dark plans lurk in the remaining two Lieutenant Packs? Discover the darkness within Nerekhall for yourself! Four new Descent Lieutenant Packs are now available, so pick up your favorites at your local retailer today.
