The First Transport Is Away

The Rebel Transport Expansion Pack Is Now Available for X-Wing (TM)

“Groups seven and ten will stay behind to fly the speeders. As soon as each transport is loaded, evacuation control will give clearance for immediate launch.”

    –The Empire Strikes Back

The first transport is now away… The Rebel Transport Expansion Pack for X-Wing is now available at your local retailer!

As it introduces the game’s first huge ship, the Rebel Transport Expansion Pack marks the beginning of an exciting new era for X-Wing, filled with richer Cinematic Play experiences, Epic Play battles, and massive starships that maneuver and battle differently than the game’s smaller starfighters.

With new rules, one Rebel transport miniature, one X-wing miniature with an alternate paint scheme, and a wealth of new ship cards, upgrades, and missions, the Rebel Transport Expansion Pack allows you to recreate the drama of the Rebellion’s desperate escape from Hoth, pursue new tactics in tournament play, and wage massive battles that are destined to shape the fate of the galaxy!

The GR-75 Medium Transport

When the Empire launched its overwhelming assault against the Rebellion’s Echo Base, it dealt the Rebel Alliance a tremendous blow. Still, the Rebellion’s losses could have been much greater. They were lucky to escape with the majority of their command structure intact, and the very fact the Rebellion was able to continue its liberation efforts after the battle owed much to the GR-75 medium transport and the role it played during the famous evacuation effort.

Naturally, the new GR-75 medium transport miniature serves as the expansion’s centerpiece.

Too large for the Standard Play format, this iconic vessel is instead intended for use in the game’s Cinematic Play and Epic Play formats. The first X-Wing starship released outside of the game’s 1/270 scale, the GR-75 enters the game at a new, relative scale that dwarfs the game’s smaller starfighters but still allows you to maneuver it in battle. Moreover, the GR-75 is so massive that it comes with two new damage decks to track hits against the fore and aft sections of its hull.

You can read more about the GR-75 medium transport in the preview, “Get to Your Transport,”  which addresses how the ship makes use of the new rules for “energy” and how it maneuvers differently from smaller starships.

The X-Wing Escort

In addition to its GR-75 medium transport, ship cards, and upgrades, the Rebel Transport Expansion Pack also introduces a new X-wing escort miniature with a variant paint scheme.

The GR-75 medium transports that the Rebellion used to evacuate its troops from Hoth would never have made their way through the Imperial blockade were it not for the coordinated fire of planetary ion cannons and the valiant efforts of a handful of daring X-wing pilots, many of whom were from Luke Skywalker’s Rogue Squadron.

The Rebel Transport Expansion Pack features six X-wing ship cards, including four unique pilots that are all new to X-Wing. Among these four pilots are three members of Rogue Squadron, all of whom proved themselves during the Battle of Hoth: Wes Janson, “Hobbie” Klivian, and Tarn Mison.

You’ll also find new astromechs and a new torpedo, all of which are legal in the game’s Standard Play format. More information about the X-wing escort and its new pilots and upgrades are available in the preview article, “Heroes of the Rebel Alliance.”

Epic Experiences

More than just the sum of its components, the Rebel Transport Expansion Pack promises to make an epic impact upon X-Wing with the introduction of Epic Play experiences!

The rules for X-Wing Epic Play matches are already available for download from the game’s support page, and two Epic Play formats allow you to make use of the GR-75 and its powerful upgrades in massive space battles waged against whole squadrons of TIEs and other Imperial ships.

Moreover, you’ll be able to enjoy the unique challenges and advantages that the GR-75 provides as you fly one throughout the course of a new Cinematic Play campaign, Evacuation of Hoth. Can the Rebellion safely find its way past the Imperial blockade? Evacuation of Hoth features asymmetrical missions that incorporate advanced planning and challenge both Rebel and Imperial players to master new tactics.

You can learn more about Evacuation of Hoth and other Epic Play experiences in our preview articles, “Evacuation of Hoth” and “Expanding the Fleet.”

Get to Your Transport

“Give the evacuation code signal. And get to your transports!”

    –Leia Organa

The Rebel Alliance is under siege. Their secret base has been discovered, and Imperial troops march relentlessly toward it. Can the Rebels survive this desperate hour? It’s up to you. The Rebel Transport Expansion Pack is your chance to relive some of the Rebellion’s most dramatic moments – and to create your own – and this epic expansion is now available at your local retailer.
