A Warhammer: Invasion Spotlight by Guest Writer Torsten Krämer
Most deck themes are based on faction themes, both in terms of flavor and strategy. Each faction is better at certain strategies than the others, but may completely fail to replicate another faction’s strength. Chaos has a strong corruption theme, but can in no way compete with the Dwarfs when it comes to healing damage from your capital. One of the fascinating aspects of Living Card Games is that you can watch each game’s existing themes develop over time, and you can see new themes emerge. Purged by Flame Some popular High Elf themes include indirect damage, Spells, and Dragons. Following the release of the most recent Battle Packs, we can see a new theme taking shape – resource token manipulation. With cards like Elven Scout (Karaz-a-Karak, 73) and Eltharion the Grim (Rising Dawn, 2), the High Elves are becoming the absolute masters of manipulating the number of resource tokens on cards, and drawing benefit from this manipulation. Purged by Flame (The Accursed Dead, 46) adds more fire to this new theme. This inexpensive tactic can allow you to trigger your Dragon's Lair (Chaos Moon, 30) early and often, have your Lothern Sea Master (Rising Dawn, 9) deal more indirect damage, or refill the quiver of your Ilthilmar Arrows (Realm of the Phoenix King, 29). Its ability to interact with any number of other cards can give it purpose in many different kinds of decks, and the more cards you have that benefit from resource tokens, the more flexible and useful it becomes. Today, we’ll take a look at two deck lists where Purged by Flame is a natural fit. Burned by the Flames The first uses a lot of recently released cards and focuses on resource token manipulation, aiming to ultimately overwhelm your opponent with indirect damage.
Legends: Tactics: Supports: Total Cards: 50 Fighting Fire with Dragons The second, Dragon-themed deck, has a more focused use for Purged by Flame. It and Elven Scout are meant to speed up Dragon’s Lair, which is protected by Tor Elyr (Fragments of Power, 30). The back-up plans are somewhat riskier, forcing you to find ways to get enough resources to play dragons from your hand.
Tactics: Supports: Total Cards: 52 Thanks, Torsten! We hope you’ve been able to enjoy the different deck-building options that have begun opening up with the first couple of Battle Packs from The Bloodquest Cycle, and we look forward to seeing what creative uses you might make of Purged by Flame and the other cards from The Accursed Dead. In fact, we want to see your creativity in action. Next week, we’ll announce a special deck-building contest for Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game, so be sure to check back for details! ...Source: Purging The Accursed Dead with Fire (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=3346) |
