Announcing the Upcoming Release of Runewars Revised Edition

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Runewars revised edition! Runewars pits two to four players against each other in a strategic game of battles and area control, where they must gather resources, raise armies, and lay siege to heavily fortified cities.

Later this year, Corey Konieczka’s epic board game of conquest, adventure, and fantasy empires will be available in a new, more compact box. This, along with a few key component changes, allows us to provide players with a value not previously possible.

For answers to likely questions, read on or visit our Runewars website.

If I own the original edition, do I need to purchase the revised edition?

No. Both the original and revised edition of Runewars offer the same fundamental game experience. Component changes (described below) are purely cosmetic. As for rules updates, a free downloadable pdf will soon be made available on our support page that outlines the changes in detail. With it, owners of the original edition can have a revised edition experience without actually purchasing the revised edition.

How are the revised edition’s components physically different from those of the original edition?

There are four differences:

  • The revised edition comes in an 11 5/8 x 11 5/8 x 4 inch box, about half the size of the original edition’s box.
  •
  • There are no three-dimensional plastic mountains in the revised edition.
  •
  • Faction sheets in the revised edition are not punchboard, but instead heavy card stock (similar to the Civilization sheets in Sid Meier’s Civilization: The Board Game).
  •
  • Map tiles that are too long for the revised edition’s box size have been split, with puzzle-cut connection points in the middle for quick assembly during setup.

Further, the new edition has a suggested retail price of $79.95, while the older edition had a suggested retail price of of $99.95.

How have the rules changed in the revised edition?

In addition to incorporating past errata, the revised edition of Runewars introduces a handful of key rules changes. Remember, however, that owners of the original edition need only download our “Revised Edition Rules Changes” pdf, which will be available on our support page in the coming weeks, to have the same experience.

Visit our Runewars website to learn more, and look for Runewars revised edition on store shelves later this year!
