Two Reports from Our Android: Netrunner Events in New York City
We’re now into the third week of the Plugged-in Tour for Android: Netrunner!
During this time, our staff have traveled to the East and West Coasts, crossed the border to Canada, and established remote servers in the Midwest. The action continued over the weekend, as our staff traveled to New York City, Wisconsin, and Colorado to officiate more tournaments, run more demos, and challenge more players with Corp decks that leak spoilers even as they secure their data.
Today, we’ll recap the action at the tour’s two stops in New York City.
The Compleat Strategist – Manhattan, NY
The Compleat Strategist in Manhattan is a focal point for all types of games, and they packed in a big crowd of Android: Netrunner players for the first Plugged-in Tour stop in New York City. The players that came to participate in the event’s tournament filled the gaming space nearly to capacity. Then, it was filled the rest of the way by a number of additional players who came just for challenge games with FFG staff members!
In fact, we had a huge demand for challenge games at The Compleat Strategist, with each staff member playing more than twenty games. The Runners kept pushing and pushing, giving our staff some stiff competition. However, in the end, we won the majority of our matches, collecting signatures from flatlined Runners and handing out copies of alternate art Scorched Earth to those who successfully navigated our servers.
In the tournament, Haas-Bioroid led the Corporations, including two players who made it into the top eight. On the Runners’ side, the majority of players split between Shaper and Criminal, but three of the nine Anarch decks made it to the top eight.
After five tense rounds, Seth Stewart took the victory with NBN: Making News and Chaos Theory. Despite the overall popularity of Shapers, Seth was the only player in the Top 8 with a Shaper deck.

We want to offer our congratulations to all of the Top 8; it was a strong field! Also, we want to give a big thank you to Danny, Ray, Matt, and everyone at The Compleat Strategist who helped make the whole tournament a smooth and fun experience!
Kings Games – Brooklyn, NY
Kings Games in Brooklyn was our second and last stop on our Big Apple leg of the tour, and a dedicated group of players came to test their mettle against the local community.
After five rounds of competition, RD claimed first place with a decisive eighteen prestige, playing with Building a Better World and Gabriel Santiago and dropping only a single game as the Corp.

The composition of the field, overall, reflected that many players believed RD made the right decisions with his choice of decks, as Criminals made up more than half of the runner decks and Weyland Consortium led the way among the Corps. Indeed, half of the Top 8 Corp decks were Weyland Consortium, though Noah Lezenby came in second place with NEXT Design. Seth Stewart, winner of the event at The Compleat Strategist, finished third. Meanwhile, all three Runner factions were represented in the Top 8, with Fedor Sosin cruising to fifth place with his Whizzard deck.
The tournament moved along at an excellent pace, and we would like to thank Kings Games for hosting us. Everyone had a great time, and the local players are really looking forward to growing the store’s community!
An Eye to the Future
Our Big Apple tour stops prompted some enthusiastic and vocal participation in the vote to decide which of the game’s two potential Runner IDs would be rezzed, and which would be destroyed. The general opinion was that Laramy Fisk would be a sounder investment, and participants helped extend his lead over The Collective.
Does this mean Laramy Fisk will enter the game? Throughout the first few weeks, he’s pushed ahead of The Collective, but we still have nearly half of our stops yet to report and The Collective may still collect more votes in the tour’s second half.
