Title: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: slug on 31 May 2011, 17:29:07
I should be back in the UK for a couple of weeks from mid to ending of July.
Got visas to sort out and hopefully get a game in.
I have yet to book the tickets but it is likely that I will be around for the 16th and 23rd (Saturdays).
As usual I will be wholly reliant on a lift, dice - the usual.

Just thought I would throw this out there.

I know not where my wanderings will take me!

I will be based in Hertfordshire (being the Southerner that I am) and will be reliant on other peoples lifts and kindness and maybe the public transport system.

I will likely have three weekends of which two might be busy.  So there is a possibility of a trip up North.  I will let Z chime in on this from a logistics standpoint (as I will probably need a place to crash).

Great to hear that you'll be around this summer.
My sis is back from NZ around then to but she'll have been to mine by the 16th and be wandering around Devon. I have a spare room if you're in the neighbourhood. I'm sure something can be worked out transport wise.

I'll be well and trully RPG starved by then as we've not had a LHR meeting for a while and June and the first two weeks of July are out for me due to family commitments.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: Zarniwoop on 02 June 2011, 00:57:16
Well we have a prior commitment on the 16th but should be free and clear for the 23rd weekend (at the moment anyway).
Also, we have a spare bedroom (inc bunk beds), a sofa bed and loads of gaming space :) so if more people wanted to come up for a weekend that could be arranged.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: slug on 02 June 2011, 01:03:00
OK my tickets are booked.
The weekends (Saturdays) I will be around are the 16th, 23rd, 30th of July.  Hopefully one of these Saturdays will be a LHR get together, it is likely that one of the others will see me down on the South Coast with a bucket and spade, therefore one will be spare.

I've got my mother-in-law's 70th birthday to go to Sat (23rd) evening but if we do both days I could be free Sunday too.

Zarni would you and Oskar be prepared to host? - I can do both days (might have to book Monday off work to recover!)

No problems we can host, we have spare bedroom with bunk beds, sofa bed and loads of floor space.
We also have a large gaming table or two ;D

Plus we are only a short walk from  +:beer=+::beer:

Which kind soul is going to pick me up from Tring and drop me off?

Games - what are we going to play.

I have not looked at the D&D 3e for ages (we don't play it in Winchester) and I don't have time to prep so this is not on the table (no pun intended).

I have the Traveller Tripwire continutation we could play (Slug will need a drop in part but that shouldn't be too hard - I think you still have the Vargr with you?)
I also have some Cthulhu mini's, one from the keepers screen and one from the Arkham source book (don't know if you have played them PM?)
I would also like the opportunity to play as well during this visit.

There is a chance I might have to work this weekend but I am doing everyhing I can to avoid it.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: PM on 19 July 2011, 14:51:42
It would be good to carry on with Tripwire. I think the Vargr is with us.

I'm sure I can sort out some Cthulhu to run but it will probably be a short one.

I'll be absent from Paul and Carole's for the mother-in-law's party from about 5.30-11pm on Sat.

Anyone sorting out Simon's travel? Steve normally does the honour but he's not posted.
If you don't make Dave will Paul H be stuffed to get home too?

I don't mind giving Si a lift back on Sunday if needed but I can't quite face
Nottingham-Tring-Burton-Nottingham-Burton all on Saturday.

Train route is Tring-Milton Keynes-Tamworth-Burton so maybe if Si can cadge a lift to MK I could go via Tamworth to collect him?

I have Spoken to Steve he will not be making this weekend, other commitments.

I have txt'd Paul H about this current discussion.

Guys,
I am a bit strapped for cash this holiday.  None of my American credit cards have chip and pin, therefore I am fast draining the cash reserves in the UK.  I have enough for food and beer but not for train travel. If I can't get a lift then Buggar.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns

I may be able to sort something out if Paul H/Dave unable to pick you up, but I will not be able to confirm for sure until later in the week. Car is going back to garage for replacemnt parts. (showing nice error lights at the mo :( )

I have just txt'd Paul H again asking about his ability to pick you up on his way, so I'll get an answer one way or another ;)

Gamewise, I have a rather a large amount of options (boardgames) some D&D based, or I could always ask if Evil fancies diving into the deep end and running something for us  >:D +:bandhead=+::banghead: +:coffee=+::coffee:

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: slug on 19 July 2011, 15:40:37
Assuming I can get to you my vote for games would be (in no particular order)
D&D - any edition except 4th
Traveller
Cthulhu
Deadlands

I would prefer a game where I am familiar with the rules system.
If EvilG and Frog are around I have presents for them. Same with you and Dave.

Zarni,

I could be persuaded to run something though I haven't a clue what yet though but possibly Pathfinderish (D&D 3.75) of even the Dying Earth game I wrote years ago if I can find it or the rule book as I think they are both still packed. There is also a possibility of a quick dip into my World of Darkness for the really brave & foolish......

If Dave is unavailable we could collect Si. I will be travelling up with Sue and Martin and they are dropping off me like last time (but nly me this time) and collect me on the way home sunday (so no late sunday for me unless Dave is attending and can drop me back).

I have a Cthulhu game to run with your 1920's Characters.

Louisiana swamps anyone?  :)

In the event I run something as Zarni mentioned it would be a classic dungeon bash using Pathfinder (D&D 3.75) but would people like to roll their own or have me roll the characters for them? could you my preference would be to have you roll your own because it saves me doing it & its a fun part of the game in itself.

I for one don't have any D&D rules post v1 although I do have eTools if I can remember how to use it.

So I'd need a pregen.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: slug on 21 July 2011, 18:24:34
I think all you need is a pencil, paper and some dice.  As long as the DM has an inkling of the rules we should be fine.

Could someone bring along a spare pencil, paper and some dice for me I would appreciate it.

If we go for a dungeon bash then I would be happy with a pre genned character - as long as it's not a gnome.

Title: Re: July 2011 - Slug Returns
Post by: EvilGinger on 21 July 2011, 18:58:35
Slug I promise it wont start off as a gnome  :D though I dont promise the lack of any polymorph traps >:D

Character Generation on the day just needs dice & pencils & some character sheets all of which I can provide I also have the Pathfinder rules to hand, the only time I need etools or similar is if I have a lot of pregening to do. I tend to run character generation as very much part of the game and a good ice breaker.

I also haven't played Cuthulu in a very long time though I did enjoy it and I have a character idea Major Miles "Bomber" Burton Joyce a WWI veteran

A P.I?  I didn't know I had one.  I think I might have taken over Armored Smilers character for a game.  I did have a writer (Luther Maguire) in one of your campaigns.

Yes I'm getting muddled up. You're right it's Luther.

UPDATE - All updated and printed out.

good good if the Pathfinder kicks off there should be much hack & slash as its a good old school monster bash I have in mind. The party will be 3rd level and the classes as per the core rule book which we will generate on the day.

That was most enjoyable.

Big Thanks go to Oscar and Zarni for hosting, more thanks to Oskar for catering.

Big Thanks to PM, EvilG and DeeBee for running some most excellent games.

No-one died, went insane or met any other fate although those swamp hounds were mighty close to taking out several people, also those tricksy goblins nearly did for a Big Ugly Unit of a barbarian, luckily there was a noble paladin to help her out.

And if faced with a choice of weapons between a laser rifle and a bucket of bleachy water, I will go with the bucket every time, course I might need a buddy with a pistol to back me up.

Until the next time.

Proof that Slug did indeed return.

Yes it was unusual in a Traveller game that the use of weopons in order were Dog Teeth, Mop Handle, Bucket of bleachy water and THEN Gun!

That what I like about Traveller is all the high tech kit you get to use.  :D

I would just like to add my thanks to everyone that came round for the weekend. It was a most enjoyable session of RPG's, chat and great to catch up with everyone.

A big thankyou also to all the DM's PM, EvilG and Deebee who did an excellent job as always providing us with great adventures.

Slug, as always a pleasure to have your company and humour back at the gaming table. I will look forward to the next session (whenever) we get together. In the meantime I will just have to read all your posts from your group over there. Have a safe journey back home..  +:druid=+::druid:

Thanks again to everyone and we'll have to see about getting EvilG to some of the "regular" LHR meeets and maybe continue the Pathfinder.

The Pathfinder could continue but unless I can organize reliable cover my getting out of town is difficult & can be managed for special occasions only but I consider it high praise when people I have mentally tortured by both my company & my Gming want me to do it again

That said it was fun & despite being too full of people with the same name the Left hand rule lot are cool indeed & I many even corrupt you into some wargaming too >:D

thank you

Finally made it back to the US.

What is it with OXO cubes? US customs made me surrender the beefy goodness that is an OXO cube.  Next time I will have to try a different method of getting them in as I dont think they do body x-rays at the airport.

So, if anyone wants to visit I will ask you to bring me some stock cubes, but you will have to be creative about where you insert them.

Oh yes, damn jet lag has me posting too early this morning.
