Hi Everyone

I live in Draycott in the Clay.  An occasional visitor to Spirit Games.  But fascinated by the world of wargames , boardgames for many years.  As a kid I plastic modeled and got interested in naval wargames.  I saved up and bought Avalon Hills Jutland (still have it) but could find noone to play.

I noted the conversations here and on Facebook about the challenges faced by local game retailers and thought I'd lend my thoughts and knowledge from experience in marketing and market research.

Its funny thoiugh that it feels there is high level of activity in Burton and area, but its hidden.

The challenge is getting in new young blood, and maybe altering some of the perceptions.

Looking forward to interacting with people here and finding some ideas that can broaden the appeal of gaming...especially in the era of austerity

Oh yes forgot to say interest include

Dark Ages (wargames) Though don't have any figures
Historical based/themed games
Historical RPG (complete newbie) - been looking at Pendragon, not bexactly historical but...
WW1 WW2 Naval (I have quite a few old Janes Fighting Ships)  I also have Avalon Hill's Jutland
I'd love to have a crack at some of those big specialist card based wargames in the back room at Spirit Games, but buying is like taking a big risk...also looks like they need quite a bit of investment (cost and time to play)

I have not been able to understand yet the card Game side of gaming and the fantasy stuff looks interesting but I have found it difficult to engage with it

Like Caracassone and Catan....but not played regularly

Dominion looks interesting...

My kids are selling quite a bit of Warhammer over coming weeks LOTR etc look up 12drewey on ebay

Does this link with anyone?

Ok first sorry for the rather strange reply it was writen but not posted before the post where Explorate details his interests. My internet connection was on the Fritz so I saved it to post later which I did before I checked the thread.

on the Wargames front I am in process of sorting out figures to begin playtesting Dux Britanicum which details the struggles of the the 5th & 6th century's for control of the British Isles the play test forces are Romano British vrs Saxon. The Format of the game is a large scale skirmish campaign but the starting forces are fairly small. I am also at an earlier stage on working on a set of small action rules for the wars of the late 17th & early 18th century as well as playing WWI & II land warfare at company level which I am more than happy to demo.

Historical & historically based RPG's look at some of the Basic roleplaying supplements like Crusaders of the Amber Coast or Rome: The Life and Death of the Republic & stuff like Cthlulu invictus for call of chthulu in the Roman empire as well I will comment on the Pendragon system on that thread when I have had a dredge through my memory.

WWI & II naval I have a lot of 1:3000 ships for WWI & two & am more than happy to give them an airing & Phil mr Spirit Games himself is a long time naval wargamer.

Pop down on a wednesday night and have a look at what is going on in the boardgames side which includes the odd board wargame we did Leipzig not so long ago.

I hope that gives you some ideas.
