Battle of Stalingrad

Once they battled into Stalingrad, the German troops joked that they had "captured the kitchen but were still fighting for the living room." The joke had more than an element of truth. Soviet soldiers in the city said, "there is no land on the other side of the Volga." Stalingrad saw "Advance at all costs!" orders from Hitler run into "Not a step back!" orders from Stalin. And then came the Soviet counteroffensive, when Hitler and Stalin reversed those same orders. But the battle for Stalingrad was only part of the German 1942 campaign, with its multiple priorities. Each player will take the role of the operational theater commander, who has a "boss" looking over your shoulder. Counters represent mostly Soviet armies and German corps. Map scale is 55km to the hex, with 2 turns per month. Now, you can revisit one of the most bitter campaigns of the war, in a challenging game you can play in a single sitting. The game provides historical insights through innovative design. The sequence of play is not the same for each side. And why should it be? The Axis and Soviet armies do not do the same tasks each turn, because their armies operated differently. Side operations in the Caucasus offer additional victory points but will they be worth the cost? The great Soviet counteroffensive has optional start times, with incentives for delay (if the rest of the Soviet front can hold out!)Sudden death victory is possible for both sides, encouraging that extra effort that could win it all... or leave one exposed and exhausted. Which side really "wins" can be in doubt to the very end. As it should be, in a situation like this.

Bomber Command

March 1944. More than 700 British bombers are dispatched to the distant city of Nurnberg. As the bomber stream crawls across the German Reich, it is set upon by swarms of nightfighters. Following the bombers' contrails the fighters infiltrate the stream in great numbers and before the moon can set they pick off bomber after bomber. The mauled stream makes a desultory attack on the target city, scattering much of their payload of high explosive and incendiaries harmlessly into the surrounding countryside. Then the raid struggles back towards England while fresh formations of nightfighters snap and bite at the retreating formation. More than ninety bombers fail to make it home safely. Soon afterward, the C-in-C of Bomber Command, Arthur 'Bomber' Harris, calls off the Battle of Britain.Bomber Command is a 2-player game of the night war over the German Reich. It recreates the great Royal Air Force bombing raids against Germany and the bitter defence mounted by the Luftwaffe's nightfighter arm. As the British player you battle past flak and fighters to find the Reich's industrial cities and set them ablaze. As the German player you are engaged in a desperate struggle to stop these 'Terror Fliers'.Bomber Command details the techniques of night fighting, including flak, Himmelbett zones, Wild Boards and Tame Boars. The British Main Force raids may be accompanied by Mosquito bomber diversions, sea mining operations and the decoy aircraft of 100 Group (Bomber Support). A deck of 110 cards is used to resolve the complex interactions of electronic countermeasures, radars and communications, along with other operations such as Mahmoud patrols, Flower raids, and Beleuchter illumination units. A detailed bombing resolution system depicts the challenges of attacking targets at night and the evolution of precision bombing in darkness. There are two scenarios: Berlin covers raiding from the Battle of Hamburg up to the great defeat over Nurnberg. Downfall recreates the period from the Summer of 1944 to the end of the war, during which time the nightfighter arm is in decline. Easy to pick up and fast to play, games can be played in 90 to 150 minutes.Select your traget, form up your bomber stream and aim it for the heart of Hitler's Reich. Tonight Germany will reap the whirlwind.

Sea of Dragons

A Module for Harpoon 4 Modern Tactical Naval Rules System.Sea of Dragons concerns conflicts among 16 nations of the Pacific Rim, all of whom have their own agenda and means to try to advance it. The scenario book includes a brief introduction to the political and economic aspirations of the potential belligerents, and is followed by a discussion of their capabilities and military plans for the immediate future. There are 4 scenario sets containing a total of 26 engagements, many of which are suitable for solitaire play. The scenarios can be played individually or as part of a mini-campaign. And just in case 26 scenarios are not enough, a scenario for the hotly contested Spratly Islands is also included. The fleet and air force lists contain all the platforms currently in service plus those expected to come on line over the next few years. Rounding things out is an extensive bibliography and reference section and errata for Harpoon 4 rules and data annex. The Data Annex contains almost every platform available since 1980 - as well as quite a few older ones that are now out of service. The vast majority of the data on the weapons and sensors are new and have previously not been listed in Harpoon 4. This wealth of information will allow the modern naval enthusiast to explore various combinations of systems, much as the nations involved do when preparing threat analysis. Short of actually being on the bridge or in the cockpit. There is no better simulation.

Against the Odds: Boudicca: The Warrior Queen

In the days of Roman Britain, in the 1st Century AD, there lived a warrior queen by the name of Boudicca. Flame-haired and proud, she ruled the Iceni, in a time when Rome wanted to rule all.Boudicca, Boudica, Bunduca, Voadicia, Boadicia, Boudiga, are just some of the ways historians have spelled her name, which probably comes from a Celtic word meaning Victory.Regardless of how the name is spelled, she meant Trouble for the Roman occupation of Britain. Her famous revolt succeeded in burning three major towns and slaughtering tens of thousands of Roman citizens and allies, causing Emperor Nero to seriously consider whether this distant land was worth the cost to stay. Governor GS Paulinus' remarkable victory reaffirmed Roman domination. They would remain in Britain for over 300 more years. But it might have been different. Can you as the leader of a varied cluster of independent Celtic tribes cause enough trouble and loss to make the Romans leave your island? Can you as the commander of scattered Roman troops snuff out the rebellion more effectively than Paulinus? Will London burn or be saved? These are your challenges in Boudicca: The Warrior Queen.

Battles of 1866: Frontier Battles

Clash of the Teutons - In the summer of 1866, Prussian armies invaded the Austrian Empire to carry out Chancellor Otto von Bismark's policy of "Blood and Iron." The scattered corps of Austria's North Army met them as they exited the mountain passes, and in a series of hard-fought battles the Prussians drove the Austrians back using superior organization and the firepower of the "needle gun."The game includes the following battles:Trautenau, 27 June 1866. "A slap that rocked the whole Prussian Army," according to Otto von Bismarck. The Austrian X Corps of Leopold von Gablenz defeats Eduard von Bonin's Prussian I Corps.Nachod, 27 June 1866. A bloody fight between Wilhelm von Ramming's Austrian VI Corps and Karl von Steinmetz's Prussian V Corps leads to a narrow Prussian victory.Skalitz, 28 June 1866. Steinmetz's troops defeat their second Austrian corps in as many days, driving back Archduke Leopold's VIII Corps.Soor, 28 June 1866. Gablenz has much less luck against the Prussian Guard when poor communications ruin another flank attack.Gitschin, 29 June 1866. Crown Prince Albert of Saxony leads his army and the Austrian I Corps against the Prussian First Army.

War of the States: Chickamauga and Chattanooga

In the fall of 1863 the Union armies moved south against Atlanta. The Confederates stopped their advance at Chickamauga Creek in north Georgia, then besieged the Union supply centre of Chattanooga, Tennessee. But in the "Battle Above the Clouds," the Yankees broke the blockade. This game includes both of these battles plus a combined campaign game.War of the States/War of the Empires is a series of games re-creating the massive clashes of the mid-1800's in Europe and America. Easy to play, tough to master, the games show the sweep of battle in breathtaking miniatures fashion. Command the infantry, cavalry and artillery of the Union and Confederacy, and change the face of history!

Banditos

In late 1982, the Mexican government responded to their country's financial crisis by centralizing their banks and devaluing the Peso, creating the Neuvo Peso in the process. (This much is a least true). And now for game world...The Mexican people responded poorly to these changes, resulting in apathetic security and creative accounting at the new Banco de Mexico. Once news of this spread to the U.S., some of the alternatively principled people in the Land of Opportunity looked south of the border for the ventures.

Great War at Sea: Dutch East Indies

For hundreds of years, the Dutch maintained dominion over a vast empire of overseas possessions. By the early 1900s, one of significant import remained: The East Indies. Fears of Japanese aggression led the Dutch to consider a vastly expanded Koninklijke Marine with modern dreadnoughts to defend their prize.Dutch East Indies is a supplement for the Great War at Sea series, focusing on battles that could have and in some cases did take place in and around these islands over the period 1914-1917. There are 35 scenarios, or separate game situations, plus a campaign game exploring a 1916-1917 Japanese invasion of the East Indies. This supplement contains no playing pieces or maps; ownership of Pacific Crossroads, Jutland, Cruiser Warfare and the operational maps from Strike South (from the Second World War at Sea series) is required to play the majority of the battle and operational scenarios, while Mediterranean and Dreadnoughts are needed to enjoy them all.
