A League of Nations

Guest Writer Jeremiah Terry Previews the Upcoming Allied Units for Dust Tactics

In August, we announced the British Commandos Kill Squad and the French Foreign Legion Kill Squads for the Allied forces. Each of these units leverages some seriously superior firepower when going up against the infantry of the enemy. Next week, these powerful Allied agents will go on sale, and today Dust Tactics enthusiast and guest writer Jeremiah Terry discusses some interesting ways to get the most out of these brave soldiers.

A League of Nations

In Dust Tactics the Allies are represented by more than just the Americans. More support from the eternal isles is on the way, with new British units arriving to fight alongside the U.S. forces. The new British Commandos Kill Squad known as The Devil’s Own is a soldier 3 unit. This three man team is armed with light Phaser Weapons, capable of doing damage to even the heaviest infantry units. However, they have very limited abilities against ground vehicles and possess no anti-air ability at all.

Where these new commandos will do their best work is up close and personal, so The Devil’s Own are a force to be reckoned with in the sewers or back alleys of Zverograd. They can use their Scout ability to get into the battle more quickly, and then hit any enemy infantry hard with their phasers. They can’t go it alone, though, so the British Commandos Kill Squad will need backup for longer range cover and anti-air support.

This force focuses on armor 3 units, so that even the toughest of enemies will have to work to take them down. For anti-air support, Wildfire and Rattler are your primary heavy hitters with the Grim Reapers on hand to help out. Rounding out this army is a Pounder to provide some much needed long-range firepower.

This army is a little vehicle-heavy, with one light and two two medium walkers, so you won’t be taking it into the tight spaces beneath the doomed city of Zverograd. Eliminating the vehicles from the roster frees up 98 army points to fill in with more close combat units.

This second list is very hero heavy, and lacks any mechanized support. It shines in close range combat, with a large number of flame throwers and powerful phasers. With all these heroes you’ll have a lot of options when pairing up heroes and squads. Try out some less traditional pairings like Rhino with the Grim Reapers, or OZZ 117 with The Hammers.

Vive la France

The British Commandoes Kill Squad also includes an extra set of heads and an additional stat card so that you can convert your British squad to a French Foreign Legion unit called the Legio Patria Nostra. Aside from the very stylish Kepi hats, the only real difference is that this unit exchanges Scout for the somewhat more powerful Assault ability. Of course, the British version can gain the Assault ability by being paired with a hero like Action Jackson. This makes the idea of fielding both the French and British versions of the Kill Squads an intriguing concept.

This army exchanges most of the heroes for a large number of vehicles. The majority of this list consists of soldier 3 units armed with phaser weapons. The infantry is supported by both Cobra and Honey, two walkers that are also sporting powerful phaser-type weapons. The combined anti-aircraft capabilities of Rattler, Wildfire, and the Grim Reapers should be more than enough to deal with most airborne threats.

These are just a few of the near limitless possibilities when it comes to building an Allied force. With the new Kill Squads, an all phaser army becomes an appealing idea. Just remember that you may need to mix in a few anti-air units to keep those SSU choppers and the incoming Axis jets at bay.

Reinforce Your Allied Forces

Special thanks to Jeremiah Terry for his insights on some innovative ways to integrate these powerful new units into your Allied army. The British Commandos Kill Squad goes on sale next week, so make sure to visit your local retailer and add these troops to the battlefield in Dust Tactics!
