Holland '44

Holland '44 is a two-player game depicting the Allies' combined ground and airborne attack in the Netherlands during WWII, which was code named Operation Market-Garden. This daring plan to grab critical bridges across The Netherlands had the potential to open up a clear road into Germany. However, remnants of several battered German divisions were in the area and were able to slow the ground offensive and almost totally destroy the British 1st Airborne Division. The Allied Offensive was a failure. In this game, you have the opportunity to change history and study the campaign in detail. Did it have a chance of success? Could things have been done differently? You decide. Each turn represents approximately 8 hours. Most units are battalions, though there are many company-size German units depicted. The game uses the simple Move-Fight-Supply game system developed in Normandy '44 and Ardennes '44. Important elements like supply, troop quality, tank quality, artillery support, and command-and-control are all reflected in the game. Special rules for airborne landings, airborne supply, bridge destruction and repair are also included. The game covers the first critical seven days of the battle with a 20-turn Campaign Game and a 11-turn Tournament Scenario.GAME CONTENTS:1 full size map sheet (22 x 34 inches)1 map section (17 x 22 inches)2 sheets of counters2 identical player aid cards1 scenario card1 rules booklet2 dice (6 sided)

Coal Country

In the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, at the heart of the 20th century, there lies...COAL COUNTRYCoal Country is rife with questionable conduct, with the competing mine foremen "influencing" multiple aspects of the coal industry to their own benefits. As the boss of a mining company, it is your job to sit at your desk and plot where to send your most "influential" foremen. By successfully "influencing" the price of coal, permits, utilities, and construction, your company can expand and boost the profitability of its operations.Your job is made all the more difficult by the ever-shifting nature of the markets, from turn to turn, round to round, and game to game. It is your responsibility to determine how and when to act in order to capitalise on a potentially beneficial marketplace. If your mine is not built wisely and safely, a share of your company's profits will be lost after the end-of-year visit from the mine inspector. The mining company that has the most money at the end of the year wins the game.Components:1 boss' desk board

Lisboa

Lisboa needs your help!Lisboa is a thematically rich resource management game about the reconstruction of the great Portuguese capital city after a series of terrible catastrophes in the 18th Century. On November 1, 1755, Lisboa suffered an earthquake of and estimated magnitude of 8.5 to 9.0, followed by a devastating tsunami, and three days of raging fires. The city was almost totally destroyed. The Marquis of Pombal, Sebastiao Jose de Carvalho e Melo, was then the Minister of foreign affairs. The King put him in charge of the reconstruction of Lisboa. The Marquis gathered a team of engineers and architects to aid him in this reconstruction.Lisboa is played on a genuine map of the city. During the planning of the downtown rebuilding project, the type of businesses permitted on each street was pre-determined. The clockmakers and goldsmiths had their street; as did the bookstores and libraries; the tailors and silk vendors; and the toolmakers as well. This all comes into play on the Lisboa gameboard. You are members of the nobility, and you will use your influence in the reconstruction and business development of the new city. Using your limited hand of cards, you will work with builders and architects to build Lisboa anew, while the Marquis develops the commerce and the King oversees the politics of re-opening the beautiful new city. While you achieve success, influence, fame, and fortune, you will attain true triumph by collecting the most recognised symbol of greatness in 18th Century Europe: Wigs!Game Components1 Game Board1 Rule Book & Solo Rules4 Player Aid Books68 Goods Tokens55 Currency Tokens20 Plan Tokens16 Building Tiles22 City Tiles5 Small City Tiles4 Scoring Tiles12 Royal Favour Tiles37 Clergy Tiles82 Political Cards12 Ship Cards70 Decree Cards63 Wooden Rubble Cubes1 Wooden Treasury Marker1 Wooden Cardinal Pawn4 Wooden Price Markers20 Wooden Rubble Set Cubes4 Wooden Courtier Meeples32 Wooden Official Meeples32 Wooden Houses1 Starting Player Marker2 Cloth Bags1 Two-Player Overlay1 Decree Board12 Task Cards

Arquebus: Men of Iron Volume 4

The Men of Iron series takes you to one of the crucibles of modern medieval warfare - Northern Italy. Here, over a fifty year period, medieval warfare evolved from the dominance of heavy cavalry and the dense Swiss pike-armed formations to the pre-eminence of the Landsknechts. Gone were the days when these dense pike formations could break opposing lines with impunity. Even the primitive arquebus could inflict grievous casualties on the tightly-packed pikemen.Arquebus uses the popular Men of Iron mechanics with much concentration on detail of weaponry, from the differences between closed formation and open, to the strengths and weaknesses of the Swiss and the German Landsknecht, the major force of warfare of the era.Arquebus shows all of this in true die-rolling glory, featuring 8 major battles: Fornovo, Cerignola, Agnadello, Ravenna, Marignano, Bicocca, Pavia, and Ceresole. These are all really great game-players, will all but two of them half-mappers playable in 3 hours or less. The other two are the 'tiny' page-sized (8" x 11") Cerignola and the big one-mapper, the final battle of Pavia. Pavia was a crushing defeat wherein France lost over 50% of its army and almost all of its nobility of command, including her king, Francis I, who was captured. But for gamers, Pavia is wonderful gameplay, with units all over the greatly detailed map, much manoeuvre, and many tough decisions to make.GAME CONTENTSTwo 22" x 34" backprinted mapsThree Full-Colour CountersheetsThree Player AidsTwo 10-sided diceRule BookBattle Book
