Swear an Oath

Oath of the Outcast Is Now Available for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition

Oath of the Outcast, the first Hero and Monster Collection for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition, is now available online through our webstore and at your local retailer!

Sinister forces conspire to raise an undead army in this new Descent expansion. The souls of these evil warriors are protected by a lone guardian, long ago cast out from her people. Without the help of noble heroes, however, the monsters of the overlord will surely overwhelm her. Like every Hero and Monster Collection, Oath of the Outcast offers heroes and monster groups previously only available through the first edition of Descent. These figures now feature updated sculpts and artwork, bringing them in line with second edition aesthetics as they struggle to stop a new threat in two brand new quests.

Contains four heroes, four beastmen, four razorwings, and three bane spiders.

Questing Heroes

In our first preview of Oath of the Outcast, we explored the skill of Laurel of Bloodwood, a deadly Scout accustomed to striking her enemies at range. When Laurel of Bloodwood joins your hero party, the overlord’s monsters quickly learn to fear her arrows and other Ranged weapons. We also looked at the barbaric ferocity of the beastmen, fearsome creatures that pair the savagery of a monster with the cunning of a man. In large packs, the beastmen are more dangerous than ever.

Our second preview examined the healing talents of Elder Mok. Shunned by his own people for speaking of peace, Elder Mok wanders the realm of Terrinoth, using his skills to support the cause of heroes everywhere. In the same preview, we viewed the opportunities presented to the overlord by a flock of razorwings. These flying creatures are some of the fastest at the overlord’s disposal, and their speed is only matched by the sharpness of their claws and teeth.

The Path of the Warrior

The heroes’ quest to keep the overlord from raising an undead army is aided by the overwhelming might of Trenloe the Strong, a Warrior of titanic strength. Many mistakenly attribute Trenloe’s title to his abilities: to march for days without rest or to cleave through iron plate with one blow. But it is Trenloe’s determination and undying loyalty to his friends, that has earned him his name. His comrades may joke that his greatest skill is stubbornness, but if asked to pick a man to guard their backs, it is always Trenloe the Strong.

Trenloe’s hero ability only lends more strength to his already awe-inspiring reputation. Every single attack that Trenloe the Strong makes causes one additional damage, and any time he is attacked, he adds one shield to his defense results. The overlord’s monsters will soon discover Trenloe to be a redoubtable opponent, and his heroic feat only adds to his ability to shear through a monster’s armor. By triggering Trenloe’s heroic feat before he attacks, you may choose and remove one defense die from your target’s defense pool. In many cases, this leaves a monster without defenses, and even if he’s just weakened, he will swiftly fall beneath the axe of Trenloe the Strong.

Make Your Stand

Trenloe the Strong is a formidable warrior, but the overlord’s monsters grow more numerous day by day. Can you stop the overlord from raising an undead army and bending all of Terrinoth to his will? Both sides will need the heroes and monster groups included in the Oath of the Outcast Hero and Monster Collection. Pick up your copy at your local retailer today!
