Well Ginger,

you missed two:

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/saga-normans-vs-varangian-guard/
(Saga battle report, Normans vs. Varangian Guard)

And another two battalions of French infantry:

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/generic-french-ligne-regiment/
(http://dhcwargamesblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/generic-french-regiment-three-battalion-shot.jpg?w=516&h=222)

Oh and then there is the annual picture report from Crisis (but I only posted that a couple of minutes ago).

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2013/11/03/crisis-antwerp-2013-picture-report/ (http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2013/11/03/crisis-antwerp-2013-picture-report/)

As usual is it very picture heavy and all pictures are linked to larger version.

Hope you will enjoy it!

Burkhard

P.S.: Just a few shots to wet your appetite:

well done as you would expect and some of the camouflage patterns are distinctly unpleasant to paint in my experience, and take a lot of skill and effort to get looking right, but not generally a force I would run

We have looked at CoC, but their set up mechanic does not allow us to play prepared scenarios from books like SkirmishCampaigns (which we love) and that the rules do not really work without it. :-[

Thanks Ginger! Great you see it this way, because I always feel that if I go through all the efforts of having a blog, it is always nice for people to actually go there on not just read the headlines in the news! ;-)

Anyway... there are some other news:

Very impressive even if I would hate to have to fight across it as shown in the picture.

Having been bloging myself again lately about role playing shamefully I know what you mean knowing you have an audience can be really good for the morale & make all the single combat with Bloger layout worth it.

Blogging is a nice thing, but I inly find it worthwhile, if there actually is some feedback (of any kind). Otherwise it can really drain you!

Having popped over to the blog to check out the larger pictures of the River Boards and the Hussars I have to say I am impressed with the detail work.

I have never really tackled any model painting or set design, aside from the models for my RoboRally Game that EvilGinger had to effect some repairs and varnish. That said I can certainly appreciate the work of others and these are some excellent examples so I would dough my Hat (if I was wearing one) to you Sir, Well Done.

I have never tried the historical wargaming but I always get drawn to the tables at events like B&P and others as the detail that goes into the scenery is jaw dropping.

Thankyou for sharing a portion of your work here, please be assured I try and read everything posted here and I do find these posts interesting.

Thank you Zarniwoop, really appreciated!

There are so many aspects to this hobby and I think none of them are humble (and I personally think there are many possibilities in RoboRally!).

I am glad if work like mine can draw a few people deeper into the hobby! And i have to say the quality of the hobby is getting better by the day. Which is why I am probably redoing stuff (like the river) where I was happy with the layout a few years ago, because I see people doing better and I find myself thinking, that I want the same.  ::)

If you find the chance, go any pop in at the earliest post here. I think there is more than two years worth of posts before that.

Thanks again,

Burkhard

I just put some pictures (along with my thoughts behind them) of my first two test pieces for my 28mm inner city ruins on my blog:

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/wwii-inner-city-terrain-part-1/ (http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/2014/04/14/wwii-inner-city-terrain-part-1/)

While meant for WWII, this should work for anything up to moderns or the more steampunk SciFi settings as well, as long as one can ignore the contemporary slogans and such.

The buildings are from Commision Figurines and the minis from Victory Force and Bolt Action (shown for scale).

Enjoy,

Most of the scenary he has seen is mine so not in quite the same league though he did pop into the first of the two Beer and Lard events and see Sid Roundwood of Roundwoods world's WWI trenches which are in the same league.

Thanks Ginger!

I will just copy the text I wrote on another forum (if you do not mind):

It is a technique meant to depict paint jobs or or whitewashes that are wearing off, leaving the underlying scheme or base coat to show through. Essentially, you paint your model in the colour you want to show through in the end and then give it a coat of gloss varnish (to create a smooth surface to work on). Then you apply the hairspray and once dry (it is best to leave a couple of hours between he steps) airbrush the colour you want chipped off to over the hairspray. It is important to use an airbrush, since you need a virtually dry application. If you brush it on, the paint and hairspray will mix and the next step will not work anymore. Afterwards you use a brush with stiff bristles which you dabbed in warm water (best to remove some water from the brush so it is not completely soaked) to rub over the model where you want the paint to rub off. Once that is done, you can do the normal painting, weathering detailing an so on.

Interesting even if my lack of an air brush prevents me form trying it out

Post by: 14th brooklyn on 29 April 2014, 22:17:46
Well, it would work with paint from spray cans as well. I have heard people have achieved good results by applying dry-brush like coats of paint over the hairspray, but they all did not post photos, so no idea if it really works!

So after the more than a month hiatus on my blog (except for the Liebster Award), I am back with an AAR.

We played “Purple Heart Hill” from the SkirmishCampaigns book “Normandy ´44 – Heroes of Omaha and Panzer Lehr” book using the Battlegroup Overlord rules.

We had another game this weekend and I will try to post a report tomorrow.

Very nice stuff - and the Warzone battle report was also a good read if a little one sided since it is apparent that the game hates you for some reason as both the reports have you losing horribly I notice. Well better luck next time I am rooting for you even if my faction of choose would be Imperial - my favourite of the old Warzone range

Regarding Warzone... well at least I got win... against Bauhaus that time. I am starting to get the sinking feeling that Bauhaus simply do not have enough units that are beyond solid to crack the other factions. :-(

I keep wanting to get back into wargaming but I look at my lead and plastic pile of loved but half painted stuff and reflect that I would need a ten day week and a heavy doses of amphetamines   +:coffee=+::coffee: to clear that and have time to play with any of it and have to resist  +:bandhead=+::banghead:. Its still lovely to see that some one has the time to and makes such a good job of it.

I do get a bit jealous though I have to say

Title: Re: dhcwargamesblog - Blog
Post by: 14th brooklyn on 12 September 2014, 12:54:38
Thanks Ginger, but do be jealous. It comes at a very high price this year. I have been unemployed since January and there is no new job in sight. I have the big problem of having a university degree that is one of the two most highly qualified degrees here in Germany, but is useless outside Germany, of working in a field where there are ten times as many people on the job market as jobs and with six years work experience being told that I have too much experience for the beginner jobs and too little for the experienced jobs. I have also looked for jobs in the UK just based on the fact that I speak both English and German on a high level, but the only one you find are call centre jobs or hotel concierge.  :-[

Title: Re: dhcwargamesblog - Blog
Post by: EvilGinger on 12 September 2014, 17:56:37
Sorry to hear about the job situation and I hope it resolves in a good way soon, however in the mean time please keep up the lovely painting as if I don't get the chance myself at the moment its good to look at such lovely pieces of work.

Having had experience of UK IT call centres  I would personally consider working in them as less preferable to taking part in a full size live fire reenactment of Verdun on either side as they are horrific & you don't get to shoot any one for stress relief.

Take care & good job hunting

Welll Ginger... glad to have drawn you in!  >:D

Imperial is a good choice (I actually have one mini on my painting table right now). Great minis and great rules, too. Did you download the rules and Imperial PDFs?

Would be interesting to play Warzone online, although with all the card and the like, I am not sure it ould be 100% workable?

Where are you exactly? Post by: EvilGinger on 19 September 2014, 05:33:02
well I am in Burton on Trent just up the road from Spirit games and  I have the version one PDF which I am reading thought not having the rules it doesn't mean all that much. Cards can be done wit Roll 20 quite easily particularly as I have a paid roll20 account. I am playing with building decks for various Lardie games I like which use card driven activations.

I will post pictures of my poor efforts at painting Imperials when I get the chance & they make it through the post.

I am always blown away by the time and patience that a lot of gamers have to produce such quality figures as well as the scenery to go with it.

I wish I had the time or the skills to devote to such projects but at least with your updates I get to appreciate the efforts of others. You do some fantastic work sir and long may you continue to do so. I'm sure the groups you game with get as much enjoyment out of your work as you do.

May I also thank you for continuing to post your highlights here, even though you have your own blog which I am sure also takes quite a bit of personal effort to maintain.

Cheers

OK, I know I officially called my Bauhaus troops finished (for the foreseeable future) a couple of weeks ago, but I simply could not resist the new Marschall and Rangers!

Thanks Ginger!

I used him as a Kaptain this weekend. Not sure if he really provided his points worth, but the Hussars he was leading had to spend most of the time fighting two Necrobeasts, which did not realy suit them in the first place! Otherwise I think he would have done well!

Thanks Ginger!

First of all sorry for the rather unspecific title, but, there is simply too much different stuff to put into one topic line!

Just a short heads up, that I have made a massive update to the For Sale subsection of this blog.

http://dhcwargamesblog.wordpress.com/for-sale/

As usual everything is 25mm to 28mm. There has been a huge update to the terrain section, as well as miniatures.

This includes:
Complete collections for WWI Germans and Brits (including tanks)
Medival English and Scots (eBob)
Vast amounts of ACW minis
WWII minis and tanks
Ancients (Celts, Parthians)
Wargods of Ægyptus and Olympus
Vintage Mechwarrior
Warhammer Tau
VOR: The Maelstrom
assorted fantasy and SciFi
lots of Hirst Arts molds

So I hope there is something for everyone!

And two more things... I know it is close to X-Mas. So for some this might be a great opportunity to get some gifts, for others the might just be the wrong time. If you fall into the later category, let me know and I will reserve you the stuff you want till January or in some cases February. Please just note... for reserved items over a value of 100 Euro total I reserve the right to ask for a non-refundable 10% deposit if I do not know you personally or have never dealt with you before.

Also... I am thinking about selling my painted ACW collection and my Warhammer 40K Tau. I just simply was not in the mood to take photos today. If you are interested, drop me a line and we can arrange something!

Sad you are selling this stuff but some one is going to get both a treat & a bargain as they are some of the nicest paint jobs I have seen

Generally I think people are getting good deals (maybe too good judging by how fast some things sell  :D). Not too much painted stuff in there. That should come when I try to sell the Tau and ACW stuff next year. Right now it is mostly the projects I bought for but never started.  >:D

So for the 4th theme round on the AHPC (Myth) I dabbed my toe into Wargods again. Have not found the time to paint one of their minis in ages. Which is a shame, since they are really great! Anyway... here is the post:

These have been painted for almost two weeks now, but I only got around to post them now. So here are the latest additions to my Imperial Forces for Warzone: Resurrection... five Blood Berets with Heavy Chainrippers:
