The attractive female with wings was Ashanna an Advanced Erinyes
The four devils were Bearded Devils

The remaining Kua-toan whip had also brought with him his mummy Smiley which gave a few people a fright, but eventually got turned and fried.

After assembling at the upper doorway we unlocked it and then realised that it was being held shut from the other side. A couple of feeble attempts later we shoulder charged with all six shoulders and battle ensued.

Our stealthy person stood still too long and was almost assassinated!! By a falling fish boy! Just as we picked ourselves up and headed for the two doors ahead an angelic female with wings appeared in the fish temple. She said "Save Me" in PR's mind just as Si opened up diplomatic relations with his bow. Suddenly four devils appeared and tried to attack the angel. We switched our attentions to the devils who teleported to us and off we went again although by now we were pretty much out of spells.

Finally finishing the devils we realised that our feathered friend was no angel and that her fiery arrows were dangerous. Leorn summoned up a small shower to counter the fire and Xinh was lassoed off the platform. After much missile fire the Not Angel went down to fight Xinh.  The rest of us decided to head back down. Leorn took the quick but painful route by jumping 60 feet. The others were delayed by a remaining Fish Boy Priest. Xinh and Leorn suffered greatly but held on long enough for the others to end the fight.

After climbing the stairs to the top platform we find that the door is locked (and rapidly opened) but also held closed, probably from the two Kua–Toans  that ran inside.  After much pushing we get the door open and deal the death that is required of us.

We were just pondering our next move – to close the doors and explore the next bit of corridor when death drops on us, an assassin with daggers dripping poison takes Entwhistle out and whirls on the others in the midst of the party.  Take him down and get Entwhistle on his feet when a rather strange thing happens, what would appear to be an Angel materialises on the Altar platform 60’ below us, immediately an archer in the party puts an arrow into her.  The reasons?:-
a)   Probably just an illusion so I was trying to dispel it.
b)   A vicious monster has arrived disguised as an Angel – first blood to the Token Human party
c)   If it really is an Angel then they will have buckets of hit points and be full of forgiveness (my hand slipped)

A nameless Rogue then begins to feel something strange (a conscience perhaps?) when four demons appear and attack the “Angel”, said winged creature flies up to avoid them and communicates telepathically to the Sorcerer to help her, next thing we know the Demons have appeared around the party and battle ensues, the creatures are using weapons that leave open wounds which continue to bleed – quite nasty and much binding of wounds and healing required, our spells are almost completely finished now, one of our number go down (Rogan Josh?) but we triumph to turn and see the winged one open her eyes to glow fiery red.  Phew, the Elf who loosed the arrow is justified.

Find her flaming bow to be quite deadly our Bard goes down and needs some quick healing (lucky for us we bought the wands from Skie).  The non Good members of the party (whoever they might be) don't seem to be inflicting as much damage as the righteous ones, as such the Holy Rollers are targeted by the bitch with the bow.  Xinh is lassoed from the platform for a 60’ fall.  By now the chick with wings is looking like a porcupine from the number of arrows we have hit her with, not too mention having to dispel the 8 mirror images she had created.

Leorn decides to assist Xinh and decides the quickest way down the 60’ is to jump (must have some paladin in his blood).  Gets some quick healing done and the others make it down in a more conventional fashion, when another 8 images appear – this is beginning to get very annoying, just to add to our woes a Kua-toan priest comes out of a corridor where he had been skulking after whipping their asses in the first battle, he just about makes it to part of the party, before he is peppered with arrows and goes down.  Finally manage to put the naked winged chick down and Entwhistle runs down to the bottom level to make a closer inspection of the bow.

By now the Token Human Party are completely out of spells (apart from read magic) and quite low on hit points.  Find some keys on one of the corpses and enter a set of doors leading off the main chamber, turn left and find some workshops which look like a good a place as any to rest, just look into the last room and notice a hidden fishy rogue type waiting to do no good, summarily dispatch him and start to settle down when a keen eared member of the party hears a lock turning (the main temple door we had earlier secured).  Take up battle formation with several members of the party on the ceiling.  Through the door is a fishman in full plate with all manner of enchantments cast on him, arrows just seem to bounce off him and with no spells left the party go for the grapple option and with four of the party jumping all over him and an enthusiastic archer firing arrows into said brawl finally get the better of him.

Now to sleep, the rogue takes up a vantage point on the wall of the opposite corridor and notices a movement in the water, eventually a kua-toan emerges and starts up the stairs before he is dispatched with a flaming arrow in the back (good bow this).  Shortly after another noise is heard of squelching footsteps, turn back and see another creature trying to flee the area, Xinh and Entwhistle, who are on guard pursue and ultimately dispatch the fleeing creature.  Back to watch and interestingly the body on the stairs has disappeared, a short while later a very large Black Dragon appears and mentions that it might be better if we left his area down here – not wanting to start another diplomatic incident we agree and make our ways to the top level where, from the dragon, we learn Zenith Splintershield resides.

Have to finish off our resting in the corridor and relearn of spells.

Check out one room covered in mushrooms, molds and fungi.  Our sorcerer sends his ball of flame bob, bob, bobbing around the room and toasts all the growths including a couple of Violet Fungi.

Finally get around to the room where Zenith is thought to reside, the Bard using a Clairaudience and Clairvoyance spell checks out the room and nearly vomits, the description of corpses twitching from the ceiling and a Dwarf sitting on a throne covered in skin don't bode well for the sanity of the one we have come to rescue.

We spend a couple of minutes casting spells before opening the door and casting fireball onto the ceiling to deal with any surprises from the bodies.  When we reopen the door we notice the dwarf has not moved but mutters something about prophesying our doom, a man in a blue cloak will murder us horribly and no doubt dance on our graves.  Even a flaming arrow doesn't seem to stir him much although he does throw a globe at the wall and moments later a summoned invisible creature starts attacking us, judicious use of a bobbing ball of fire and some missiles negate the creature, which leaves us to deal with Zenith who is advancing towards us.

An invisible spider climbing bard is standing on the ceiling ready with a net and casts it perfectly over him just as four heavily armoured and strengthened members of the party jump on him, in seconds he is disarmed and trussed up and we exit the complex lugging our loot with us.

We see Valhantru, the Mayors adviser who is authorised to gives us our cash we start to haggle saying that the Devils and Dragons we had to deal with are extra and our rates will increase – no joy there, so we hand over the mad dwarf.

Items are divided amongst the party members and we head off to the Drunken Morkoth for some much needed refreshments before visiting Skies to buy/sell some interesting items.

Check out the Mayors advisor's name whom we handed the mad dwarf over to " Valhantru"

with the name of a Beholder in 01.08 " Vhalantru"

Is this a coincidence.

I have just been deleting a shed load of email dating back several years and came across Steve's version of events from a session I missed (posted in adventure 01.08), name rung a bell so trawled through the archives.
