Smile and Wave Boys, Smile and Wave

I watched this last week, it was enjoyable but I get the feeling I really should read the book instead.
The plot theme about life being planned and things running on a path with other people crossing at nodal points is a common theme for this type of movie, I’m wondering how old the story is, as its theme is a bit similar to the Matrix about free will and choice.
The best character as expected was Terence Stamps as he tries to control the situation, but doesn’t have much luck.

Sooner or later, everything is a short story by Phillip K. Dick. True story.
