Adventures at Smaug's Lair and Beyond

The Hobbit: On the Doorstep Is Now Available

When Gandalf saw Bilbo, he was delighted. “Baggins!” he exclaimed. “Well I never! Alive after all–I am glad! I began to wonder if even your luck would see you through!”

–J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

The Hobbit: On the Doorstep is now available at your local retailer and online from our webstore! Pick up your copy today to join the renowned burglar, Bilbo Baggins, and his Dwarven companions as they follow their journey toward its thrilling conclusion.

The Hobbit: On the Doorstep is the second Saga Expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, and it follows the final adventures of Bilbo Baggins’ fantastic story with three all-new scenarios drawn from the second half of The Hobbit. You’ll battle the giant spiders of Mirkwood, burgle treasures from beneath the nose of Smaug the Magnificent, and fend off the foes that fall upon you during the Battle of Five Armies!

In addition to its three scenarios, the 165 cards in The Hobbit: On the Doorstep contain five new heroes and forty-five new player cards (three copies each of fifteen individual cards). These give new life to such notable figures as Balin (On the Doorstep, 2) and Bard the Bowman (On the Doorstep, 3), and they allow players to build decks around strategies steeped in the Dwarf and treasure-inspired themes of The Hobbit.

The Burglar’s Turn

Catching up with Bilbo Baggins immediately after the events of The Hobbit: Over Hill and Under Hill, The Hobbit: On the Doorstep continues to explore the role of treasure cards in The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

Unique to the Saga Expansions, treasure cards represent some of the rarest and most valuable items your characters can find while adventuring in Middle-earth. They also reward those players who take a little extra risk during their games and add to each scenario’s replay value, especially the second. In that scenario, Bilbo Baggins must sneak into the Lonely Mountain to steal from Smaug’s horde. The more he steals, the more treasures you gain, but beware! Each theft brings you closer to the dragon’s attention…

In The Hobbit: On the Doorstep, players will have their chance to earn six golden, new treasures. There’s a new version of Bilbo’s Magic Ring (On the Doorstep, 19), and Smaug’s lair contains such famed gems and goblets as The Arkenstone (On the Doorstep, 20) and Thrór’s Golden Cup (On the Doorstep, 24).

The treasures in The Hobbit: On the Doorstep lend a greater sense of continuity to your adventures, immersing you in the overarching story of which each scenario is but a part, and the expansion’s new version of Bilbo Baggins (On the Doorstep, 1) ensures that you’ll be able to get the most possible use out of all the treasures you earn.

Plenty of Excitement and Reasonable Reward

“You can say Expert Treasure-hunter instead of Burglar if you like. Some of them do. It’s all the same to us. Gandalf told us that there was a man of the sort in these parts looking for a Job at once.”

    –Glóin, The Hobbit

This is it! All the early adventures and perilous travels have led you to the skirts of the Lonely Mountain and the new challenges that await…

Head to your local retailer to pick up your copy of The Hobbit: On the Doorstep today, or order it online through our webstore. Then join Bilbo, Gandalf, and the Dwarves of Thorin and Company as they share fantastic adventures and struggle to reclaim the Dwarves’ long-forgotten riches!
